What is a Research Administrator or Research Manager?
A research administrator’s main task is to facilitate the research that is taking place at our institutions. We continually strive to improve and promote good quality research and research administration.
As research administrators we may work in research administration or research management, contracts and grants management, financial management, intellectual property and technology transfer, training and educational programming, human resources management, regulatory compliance, ethics and IRBs, information services, or many other areas. In addition to research administrator and research manager, some common titles include: vice president for research, chancellor of research, research administrative officer, grants manager, grants and contracts manager, research compliance manager, director of research and sponsored projects, sponsored programs manager, sponsored research manager, sponsored projects manager, research development associate.
Research administrators work in a broad range of organizations including universities, hospitals, medical centers, industry, government, independent research organizations and voluntary agencies.
