A Message from the SRAI Board of Directors Regarding Recent Events
We have seen the pain and grief that exists in communities across our country and are deeply disturbed and troubled by the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other African Americans and people of color. The current actions of thousands around the world who have recognized pervasive institutionalized racism and are determined to effectuate substantial meaningful change make us hopeful. We realize structural, lasting change will not be accomplished through short-lived, public statements. All of us must share a commitment to change, matched by an even greater responsibility for action.
SRAI’s mission is fundamentally connected to our collective health, well-being, and progress as individuals and community members. It is at the core of our very nature to strive for inclusion, inviting the world to join our ranks, advance our understanding of the profession, and raise all professional and personal prospects for rewarding purposeful careers.
We will continue to foster a community where every opportunity in SRAI is inclusive, equitable, and supportive by fighting racism, discrimination, and oppression, whether overt or lurking beneath the surface.
The most impactful contribution we can make as a Society is to continue to live our values, engage and listen to our broader community, and take individual action to make a difference. We invite all our members to participate in our process of improvement and advance the current momentum to create a future that is equitable, inclusive, and just for all.
Now, more than ever, we all must stand together, shoulder to shoulder, as a Society committed to positive change and action.
