Reflections on 2020

As I reflect on 2020, I can’t help but be amazed by all we have been through this year. The world as we knew it shifted and we had to find the flexibility and resiliency within ourselves and our institutions to continue moving forward. As research administrators, I feel this is something in which we excel, but this year was a true stress test as many of us switched from working in an office to working from home while navigating the changing landscape of restrictions, allowances, and new information. We at The Catalyst hope that we have helped in some small way to ease the challenges of 2020 and to continue to do so through 2021.

This month’s edition contains our usual regular columns such as View from the Top and WFH Tips & Tricks. Additionally, we are trying something new with Tiny Victories and invite you to send in your own small reasons to celebrate. Kevin Titus has shared with us his experience participating in clinical trials, including Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial, and it is a worthwhile and interesting read. And, if you want a little cheer to your day, check out Gloria’s 12 Days of a Research Administrator’s Christmas and the recipe contributions from your fellow members.

Lastly, don’t forget that the call for nominations for officers is still open for SRAI Sections and Chapters and to submit a name idea for the SRAI Podcast. We always welcome new volunteers and your participation!

The Catalyst Editors and committee volunteers wish you a safe and healthy holiday season and 2021.
