The presenters will discuss the current legal and regulatory landscape that impacts if and how research with cannabis can be conducted.

Topics discussed will include:

  • The difference between working with and without a DEA Schedule 1 license;
  • Working with high THC marijuana verses low THC hemp, and their component parts;
  • Regulatory issues associated with new drug development and FDA requirements;
  • An overview of working with universities to fund cannabis research.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand what “cannabis” is including current research with cannabis materials that can legally be conducted and an overview of how to compliantly carry out cannabis studies.
  • Gain familiarity with key regulatory limitations and requirements applicable to working with cannabis materials.
  • Learn about the process of funding cannabis-related research at a university as a sponsored research project
