Building a Basic Budget Mini-Intensive

Are you new to pre-award or do you feel overwhelmed when a PI contacts you for help developing a budget? This hands-on intensive workshop is designed for professionals to gain experience and expertise in the challenging field of grant budgeting. Topics will include an overview of allowable costs, the fundamentals of creating an effective budget for a variety of sponsors, strategies for creating time-saving templates, and the power of the budget justification. Within these topics we will also address the impact of appointment type on requested effort, considerations needed to account for sponsor salary limitations, and common pitfalls frequently found in budgets.

Intended Audience

This program is targeted to beginner and intermediate level research administrators who are interested in expanding their budgeting knowledge to facilitate investigators’ success and enhance the institution’s research portfolio. Participants from all levels of the institution, be it college, central administration, or department, will benefit by receiving comprehensive and practical information, along with specific examples, which can be used for various aspects of an institutions grant budgeting needs.
