Research Compliance, Ethics and Integrity Intensive- Program

Program Objective

Participants who have a baseline understanding of the core issues related to research compliance will be introduced to strategies to mitigate research compliance risks.

Program Description

The iSRA Research Compliance, Ethics, and Integrity Intensive training will be an interactive four-part presentation oin September 11, 14, 18, & 21, 2023. This training will explore critical compliance topics for the research compliance professional through discussion and case studies. Research managers/administrators have a front row seat to view how research is conducted and administered in various settings like universities, hospitals, academic medical centers, nonprofit foundations, research institutes, industry, and more. But often they do not realize the integral role they play in maintaining and supporting an institutional environment that supports research integrity.

This series will explore critical compliance topics through discussion and case studies. Everything from authorship, to risk policy and ethics, and beyond will be covered in this session. The series will provide best practices for managing research in accordance with federal regulations. We will also discuss lessons learned from published cases of non-compliance. Finally, we will discuss the role that research administrators can play in this crucial process.

Learning Objectives

  • To enlighten the global research management community on research ethics and compliance issues and provide the insight and skills needed to ensure ethical and compliant research practices.
  • To recognize research integrity issues, reason among possible courses of action, and be able to effectively implement the best solution to various problems that may arise.

Topics Include:

  • Authorship and Responsible Publication Practices
  • Conflicts of Interest and Commitment
  • Export Controls and Undue Foreign Influence
  • Human Subjects Research Protection (HRRP/IRB)
  • Animal Welfare (IACUC)
  • Risk Assessment and Management
  • Data Management

Expected Outcomes

  • Research scientists cannot effectively deal with research integrity in a vacuum. They are in need of solid support from their institutional administrative committees and compliance and grants management offices. That support cannot be provided without:
    •  thoughtful consideration of the issues
    • practical knowledge of the prevailing rules and regulations
    • vested interest in championing the public trust
    • safeguarding research subjects’ (human and animal) welfare

Intended Audience
