He has honed his skills in building research capacity as the pioneer Coordinator of the College of Medicine, Research and Innovation Management (CRIM). In this role, he contributed to improving the research portfolio of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

Akin has provided technical support to many universities, setting up efficient research management platforms.

Dr. Ana Sofia Brandão has been working as a researcher in the field of Circular Bioeconomy since 2019, after a short period in molecular biology research, and after having given life to an entrepreneurship project in the agri-food sector. She has a background in genetics and biotechnology, and for the past seven years has worked both in SMEs and research institutes in Portugal and Finland. Currently, she is a research fellow at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança.

Ana Sofia runs a second-hand clothes shop on Instagram as a hobby, and loves bullet journaling and petrichor. Running is her therapy, and she truly believes that behind every successful day is a substantial amount of coffee.

Charitidis is a professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), with extensive R&D experience through collaborations with international research centers. His research interests are in the fields of Nanotechnology and Nanomechanical Properties. He participated in more than 60 European and National funded projects.

He coordinates the Ethics Advisory Committee of NTUA. He was one of the seven panel members, who drafted the guidelines for the operation of Ethical Committees at an institutional level, at the end of 2017. This document is part of the new legal framework for the Greek Educational system and addresses issues of Research Ethics and Research Integrity. Costas is the coordinator of the Ethical Aspects in Research and Technology for Human network (EARTHnet) for all those working with nanomaterials.

José Santos has been working on research management and administration since 2005, when he started working at the Portuguese National Science Foundation, being himself a researcher for more than 22 years now. He has an engineering background, specializing in R&D and project management. José has worked in both private and public organisations in Portugal, the UK and France. Former board member of the Portuguese Informal RMA association (PIC). Currently he is the research support officer and an assistant researcher at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. His research interests comprise R&D, innovation and project management at higher education institutions and, more recently, professionals working at the interface of science.

He has two kids, a dog, and a small vineyard, enjoys long walks in the countryside and experimental winemaking.

Prof. Nick Graves is the deputy director of HSSR and HSRI at Duke NUS Medical School in Singapore. His areas of knowledge include health economics, health services research, decision-making and cost-effectiveness. He is interested in projects that show high- and low-value care and in the processes around implementing new policies.

Other research interests include healthcare associated infection, chronic wounds, non-beneficial treatments at the end of life, health behaviour interventions, screening for infectious and chronic disease, and how research funding is allocated.

His major focus is on showing how health services can be improved at low cost, or even improved with cost savings. He enjoys collaborating with clinicians who wish to improve the performance of health services.

Mark Hochman has been in research management for more than 30 years including 21 years as Director, Research and Innovation at the University of South Australia. He is actively involved in both ARMS and SRAI being a Past President of ARMS, Past President of SRAI’s International Section and current SRAI Board member. He was project manager for the development of the ARMS accreditation program and in the US, he chaired the micro-credentialling taskforce that developed LevelUP.

Panagiotis is a certified trainer of research integrity by the VIRT2UE course and the country correspondent for Greece for the SUPER-MoRRI project. He delivers seminars on research integrity for postgraduate students, is involved in capacity-building activities for research integrity in Greece, and writes a monthly column for research integrity in a Greek newspaper.

Ahaz Kalanga has worked ten years at a medical university college. As Deputy Provost at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College, he provides leadership in administration, translating plans into practice and building capacity for multi-disciplinary projects on KCMUCo priority sites. He founded the Association of Research Administration in Africa (araafrica.org) to enhance South-South collaborations, which currently counts over 200 members from ten countries.

Since 2010, Ahaz has managed the “Medical Education Partnership Initiative”, originally supported through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief to increase the number of doctors trained at KCMUCo, enhancing their research skills and retaining them in Tanzania ($2M/year for 5 yrs). This project evolved into the Health Professionals Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI).

He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Business Administration focusing on Research/Grant Management.

Dr. Kate Williams is Lecturer in Public Policy at the University of Melbourne. Her research occurs at the intersection of public policy, sociology and research evaluation. It focuses on the production, use and evaluation of policy knowledge, and on emerging forms of research impact assessment.

Kate is currently principal investigator on a Research Grant by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), to compare methods and cultures of research impact evaluation across the UK, Australia, and the US. Her previous work, also funded by an ESRC Grant and the British Academy, investigated the creation and assessment of value in policy knowledge contexts.

Kate has held fellowships at Cambridge, Harvard and King’s College London, and has published in journals including Research Evaluation, Policy Studies Journal, the Sociological Review and Public Administration.

Dr. Susan Wyatt Sedwick is a senior consulting specialist with over 26 years of experience in research administration. She retired in 2015 as an associate vice president for research and director of the Office of Sponsored Projects at The University of Texas at Austin, where she was responsible for both pre- and post-award financial administration units with oversight of over $630 million in annual sponsored projects expenditures. Prior to her tenure at UT Austin, she served in a similar capacity at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, where she also had responsibility for research compliance.

She is an adjunct professor for the masters of research administration program at Johns Hopkins University. She received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Sedwick is a frequent speaker on the topic of science and security, export controls as they apply to universities, human capital development, and strategic planning.

Ms. Virág Zsár works as a Senior Grant Advisor. She gained profound experience in various funded projects within the multi-annual (European) Framework Programmes, aiming to facilitate policy dialogue in the field of Research & Innovation. She also supported the preparation of and administered a number of projects funded by different EU and other transnational programmes.

She is a lecturer at Pazmany Peter Catholic University responsible for the “EU Project Management” seminar.

Inspired by her WG-leadership in BESTPRAC COST action (Voice of Research Administrators), Virág initiated and now coordinates the Erasmus+ KA2 project foRMAtion. She is also involved in the European Commission’s Horizon Results Booster Service.
