SRA International members rock! As research management and administration professionals, they never stop improving, learning, achieving, or earning new heights of success. We love sharing good news and offering a well-deserved slap on the back for recent personal and/or professional achievement. In keeping with that sentiment, please join with us as we congratulate Tonya Edvalson on her new position at a new, but familiar Institution, and Farida Lada on her newly published Book Chapter.
SRA International is a professional networking community of learners. One way to gain knowledge and expertise is to share our stories of successful achievements with our peers and colleagues. Often research managers/administrators are cast in the role of promoting, supporting and applauding others. While this may be gratifying in many respects, it is also healthy to have pride in one’s own accomplishments. Kudos Korner offers SRA International members a wonderful and respectful venue for sharing and “bragging.” Read this month about two incredible individuals, SRAI members and our colleagues.
Tonya Edvalson, CCRP, CHRC
Clinical Research Compliance Officer
University of Utah
SRAI Western Section Immediate Past-President
SRAI Distinguished Faculty
SRAI member since 2010
Tonya Edvalson has accepted a position at the University of Utah in Compliance Services as a Clinical Research Compliance Officer. She will be working with the Clinical Research Compliance and Education arm of the office, working with the University Health research community to ensure that clinical trials are set up appropriately for billing charges to the proper accounts. In this role, she will be doing what she enjoys most, interacting with staff as an educator to the research staff. The University of Utah is where Tonya began her research career in 1999 and is excited to be back on staff. She will miss her Intermountain colleagues, but is grateful that she has learned so much from them and developed strong relationships that will be valued for a lifetime.
Farida Lada, PhD, MBA
Associate University Provost for Research Administration & Compliance
The City University of New York
SRAI member since 2013
Dr. Farida Lada has recently published a chapter in the book “Research Ethics in the Arab Region (Research Ethics Forum)." For more information on the book, click here.
According to Amazon: The book addresses the pressing issues involved with the ethical conduct of research in one developing world region – the Arab Region. Clinical research has soared in the developing world -as pharmaceutical companies continue their search for regions with large, treatment naive populations - including the Arab region, and has profound implications for the health and the economies for the area. The ethical issues involved with the conduct of such research, however, have so far not been adequately addressed. This volume presents the issues regarding research ethics and research governance that have relevance for health authorities, regulators, industry, and academia. As a multi-authored volume it includes both international and local experts on ethical issues in research, representing all stakeholders, thus presenting a balanced view on this timely topic
Farida’s chapter is in Part V – Responsibilities and Functions of Research Ethics Committees, and the chapter title is Guidance for the Management and Administrative Operations of Research Ethics Committees. It includes considerations for REC authority, charge, scope, organizational structure, resources, and pragmatic aspects of starting a new REC.
