Note from the Editor | Welcome from Your New Editors

Karen Bone and I are enthusiastically diving into our roles this month as co-editors. Our goal is to build on the momentum Katie and Seema created for the Catalyst as a forum that keeps research administrators current with what’s happening at SRAI and across our membership, while exploring topics that are top-of-mind. One priority over the next year is to expand our focus on international content and issues.

This month’s edition contains regular columns, with View from the Top, by Debra Schaller-Demers, our new SRAI President; Kudos Korner, and the Secret Life of the Research Administrator. We continue our focus on COVID-19 related strategies with Work From Home (WFH) Tips & Tricks, telework and productivity, and a checklist manifesto. On the international side, Baron Wolf reports on the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) working group on research evaluation.

Don’t forget to check out our wrap-up of the iSRA Virtual Annual Meeting, a spectacular event that ran during the entire month of October, chockful of excellent workshops and presentations across the gamut of research administration including professional development, management and operations, pre-award, compliance, and much more. The dedicated international stream contained many excellent examples of work across our members, a clear illustration that though our systems may be different, the similarities are striking and there is much we can learn from each other. Be on the lookout for some of these excellent innovations in upcoming Catalyst issues.

Finally, following on the election theme that has gripped the U.S. for many months, a reminder that the call for nominations is now open for officers of all SRAI Sections and Chapters. We can’t promise the same level of excitement that you had on November 3 and the days after, but the quality of the candidates is guaranteed to be top-notch!
