SARIMA is a non-profit organization, established in 2002, that aims to promote and facilitate best practice in research and innovation management in the Southern African region. Countries in the region include Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

SARIMA’s key focus areas include research management, innovation and technology transfer and Africa engagement. SARIMA, on an annual basis, offers a large number of research and innovation management capacity development interventions, including training workshops, exchanges and networking events, in collaboration with local, regional and international partners. SARIMA also coordinates and participates in a growing portfolio of multilateral programs.

SARIMA recently adapted a Professional Competency Framework. Through the cooperative Memorandum of Understanding between SRA International and SARIMA, Elliott Kulakowski represents SRA International on SARIMA’s International Professional Recognition Committee (IPRC). The IPRC is to work with SARIMA over the next two years to develop and implement the Professional Recognition Program for Research Managers.

SARIMA currently has over 500 members but has an expanded network of over 2,000 stakeholders that are kept informed of its activities and events. Attendance at the annual meeting was about 325.
