SRA International is a professional networking community of learners. One way to gain knowledge and expertise is to share our stories of successful achievements with our peers and colleagues. Often research managers/administrators are cast in the role of promoting, supporting and applauding others. While this may be gratifying in many respects, it is also healthy to have pride in one’s own accomplishments. Kudos Korner offers SRA International members a wonderful and respectful venue for sharing and “bragging.”

Dzenita Sukurica Blackwell started working at the Office of Sponsored Research at UNC Chapel Hill in 2016 with no research administration experience. Very quickly, she made it her personal goal to learn the basics of the industry and ask many, many questions to advance her knowledge of post award financial management and regulatory compliance.
After working as a Sponsored Projects Accountant, Closeout Team Lead for several years, she was recently promoted within her unit to Sponsored Projects Accounting Manager. Her team is responsible for financial reporting, cash management, and closeout of agreements of all types – federal and indirect federal flow through, industry, etc.
Dzenita feels that SRA International’s network of RA professionals, training, and certificate programs have been truly impactful and reliable in her professional growth. Not only in helping her foster relationships with collaborating institutions, but also encouraging her to continue developing in various scopes within the research enterprise.
