City of Lights, Smiles, and Memories: Closing Out the 2022 SRAI Annual Meeting in Las Vegas
Thank you SRAI members for making the 2022 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas a resounding success!
We would like to extend a special thank you to our speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, and committee members for helping us put together a fantastic meeting for over 1300 participants. Thanks to volunteers like you, we were able to present 18 workshops and over 140 expert talks through concurrent sessions, deep dives, and quick talks! We hope that all participants enjoyed the educational offerings, the Casino Royale opening reception, keynote speakers and other special events.
The Casino Royale evening set the perfect tone for the meeting with great food, roulette and other games of chance, show girls, music and dancing, and even a contortionist!
Keynote speakers were informative and enjoyable. In the opening keynote, Dr. Johanna Varner, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Colorado Mesa University, drew on her experience with citizen science activities to track the pika - a small rodent in western North America - to underscore how public trust in science is built. She noted that research administrators play an important role in building this trust through helping researchers plan programs and secure funding.
On the other hand, in the closing keynote, professional magician and mind reader David Kristopher, challenged our perceptions. Those who attended the keynote, and particularly those called on to actively participate, are still trying to figure out how David read our minds and could predict the words secured in a balloon that were written before the show began. If only we could read the minds of our PIs when things are missing from their last-minute submissions as well!
If you were not able to join us in person there is still an opportunity to participate in this year’s meeting. The Encore iSession Series runs now through March 2023, and provides members with access to the most relevant and highly rated sessions from the Annual Meeting. Registrants of the full Encore Series will have access to all 18 iSessions, plus recordings until April 30. Don’t miss out; register today!
We are excited for the 2023 SRAI Annual Meeting in Seattle! The next group of Co-Chairs will be spectacularly leading the way. The call for proposals and additional meeting details will be posted soon. We hope to see you there!
