The 2024 SRAI Annual Meeting in Chicago is fast approaching! To make the most of this event, it's essential to plan ahead. Here are some tips and strategies to help you maximize your experience, from scheduling your time effectively to networking and engaging with exhibitors.
Plan Your Schedule in Advance
Check out the Program
Before you arrive, be sure to check out the entire program. This allows you to review all the tracks and sessions and identify those that interest you the most. As we approach the meeting, you will be given instructions to download the event app, which will allow you to save the sessions you are most interested in and build out your own personal agenda.
Set Your Goals
Determine what you want to achieve during the meeting. Are you aiming to earn a certificate in a specific track, or are you more interested in attending sessions that pique your curiosity?
· Certificate Goals: SRAI offers the flexibility to work on a certificate over a period of up to three years. Don't feel pressured to complete it all at this meeting unless you wish to. You can start your certificate now and continue with additional classes throughout the year, finishing at next year's meeting if needed. There are three certificates being offered in full at this year’s meeting:
o Financial Management
o Practice of Research Administration and Management
o Research Law
· Session Interests: Explore the program to identify sessions that align with your professional interests and goals. Make a tentative plan to ensure you don't miss out on valuable learning opportunities.
Attend Networking Events
SRAI provides numerous opportunities to network outside of the sessions. Make it a priority to meet and exchange contact information with your colleagues. Introduce yourself, join conversations, and make the most of every opportunity to expand your professional network at these key events:
· Newcomers Connect Lounge, Newcomers Meet N' Mingle, and Newcomer Dinner Groups: These are fantastic for first-time attendees to start building their network.
· Lunch Networking: Take advantage of daily lunch times to meet new people and discuss shared interests.
· Opening Night Reception: Held at Chicago’s famous Navy Pier, this event is a must for mingling in a relaxed environment.
· Optional Dinner Groups: Throughout the week, join dinner groups for more intimate networking opportunities.
· Speed Networking: Scheduled for Monday evening, this event is designed to help you meet many colleagues quickly.
· Sips N' Social: On Tuesday evening, join this lively gathering for more casual networking.
Engage with Exhibitors
The Exhibitor’s Hall is a treasure trove of professional services and resources. Engaging with exhibitors can provide valuable insights and tools for your organization.
· Learn and Collaborate: Take the time to discuss your needs with exhibitors and learn about the solutions they offer. This can lead to beneficial collaborations and new resources.
· Collect Literature: Gather brochures, pamphlets, and other materials to bring back to your organization.
· Participate in Raffles: Many exhibitors offer raffles and giveaways, so don't miss the chance to win some exciting prizes.
By planning your schedule, networking effectively, and engaging with exhibitors, you can ensure that you make the most of your time at SRAI's 2024 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Prepare in advance and take every opportunity to connect and learn from your peers. If you have not yet registered, be sure to do so and get the early bird rate by September 6!
