Being part of SRAI has given me confidence, knowledge, and leadership opportunities that I never would have expected in my life. Growing up in a very small town in Utah. Learning how to interact with others across the globe, in a profession that I have come to love, was initially uncomfortable. However, so many of you have made this an exciting adventure.
Throughout my 14 years as a member of SRAI, I have been able to network with so many of you and rely on you for information when I have a problem to solve. I have always felt part of a community that is working to make the world a better place.
I am running for Secretary of the SRAI Board of Directors this year because I want to use that excitement and my experience within the organization to give back to all of you. I see this as a terrific opportunity since I enjoy creating order and supporting a team that is making big decisions. This is a perfect combination for me, being on the Board while being at the table to make decisions regarding the organization. As the Secretary, I recognize the need to ensure that our official meetings are recorded accurately and function according to specified standards. I am up for the challenge!
My roles in research administration have prepared me well to consider many perspectives while acting as a member of the Board of Directors. These include human subject research protection, research and research billing compliance, training, contracts, grants, electronic management systems, and research operations.
I have been fortunate to have served in multiple roles within SRAI as well. In addition to serving one year as an Ad Hoc member of the Board, I have served as President of the Western Section, Chair/Co-Chair of the Membership Committee, content writer and reviewer for the LevelUP program, Co-Chair of the 2022 Annual Meeting, and participated in several other committees and workgroups. This gives me a better understanding of the many ways that SRAI works to serve its members. It’s a complete honor to hold the Distinguished Faculty position and to be recognized by my peers with the Hartford-Nicholsen Award.
The experiences I have had with SRAI have given me the knowledge and tools to be privileged your Secretary. You will always be at the center of decisions made on your behalf.
I have worked at Intermountain Healthcare and the University of Utah for 33 years. In August 2024, I am moving into a new role as a Policy and Projects Analyst for UCLA’s Office of Human Research Protection Program.
When I am not working, my life is enriched by being a mother and a “pet mom” to two dogs and two cats. I enjoy the recreational activities Utah has to offer and love a good day on the water in my kayak. Additionally, I love wood crafts and decorating for all seasons of the year.
Thank you for your membership in an organization that has been influential for me. SRAI relies on the talents and input of all its members. I value everyone’s voice, experiences, and the friendships that have been built along the way. It will be a true honor to serve you as Secretary of the Board of Directors. I appreciate your consideration and support.
