Note from the Editor | Farewell Summer

Hello September! This summer hit 90 plus degrees and high humidity with an alarming regularity, so I am especially thrilled with the recent drop in both. Walking around my neighborhood and gardening in my yard seem like actual options along with cozy indoor activities like baking that pleasantly heats up the house or reading under a cozy blanket.

In fact, one of the points in this month’s Spotlight by Hanna Bates, “Relationship Building: Communication Through Effective Storytelling,” encourages just that – reading. I’ll admit, I’m already biased favorably towards this piece with the mention of Brene Brown and Anne Lamott even before the suggestion to “read more to write and tell a better story,” but I recommend reading it yourself for your own thoughts.

If you’re a regular reader of Your Questions Answered by the SRAI Distinguished Faculty, you may be excited to see that Tonya Edvalson has expanded on her past mention of career latticing into a full article in this month’s issue with another upcoming. Which, speaking of Distinguished Faculty, this month they tackle, “What is the best advice you received as your RA career has continued to advance?”

For those looking ahead to the upcoming 2024 SRAI Annual Meeting in Chicago, “Unlocking the Secrets of Effective Networking” would be a great way to prep for the experience along with “Building Your Personal Program at an SRAI Conference: What Are Tracks and How Can I Use Them?”

We also have excellent articles on Responsible Conduct of Research, growing beyond technical skills, stress management, and volunteering.

As always, thanks for reading along with us, and if you would like to submit an article or suggest an idea, our inbox is open.
