An Educator’s Vision: Engagement and the Future of SRAI

I am excited to run for an At-Large position on the SRAI Board of Directors. I made my decision because I am grateful to SRAI and because of my deep belief in the future of our profession. SRAI has been important in shaping me as a research administrator. Also, I see Board service as an opportunity to give back to this community, which has helped me grow professionally. I very much want to continue my service and to be a part of SRAI’s next chapter.

SRAI’s mission resonates with me. The mission, which is to empower research administrators globally with the knowledge, resources, and community they need to excel, collaborate, and drive impactful research, echoes sentiments I wrote in my personal essay when I applied for my PhD program. SRAI has been a cornerstone of my professional development, and I would like to pay that forward. Through my SRAI involvement and service to date, I have gained practical knowledge and professional confidence. I have also gained a strong sense of belonging in a field that continues to evolve in complexity and importance. I would not be the research administrator I am today without this community.

I have my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in administration, and this has served as a foundation for both my leadership and service. For me, education is not simply the transfer of information. It is a learner centered process that focuses on relevance and continuous improvement. This lens has shaped my belief that SRAI’s strongest asset is its educational mission. Research administration is facing increasing regulatory, technological, and strategic demands, so our members need learning opportunities that are responsive to their experience and institutional contexts.

The future of SRAI, as I see it, lies at the intersection of education and community. I envision SRAI continuing to strengthen its role as a global learning organization that offers high quality programming. I believe that SRAI will flourish as it intentionally cultivates member voices and shares expertise. I see the SRAI mentorship opportunities across career stages as another strong educational component where SRAI thrives. New individuals to research administration are entering the field. Seasoned professionals are bringing decades of insight and institutional knowledge. I believe the synergy between these perspectives is where true growth occurs for individuals, for SRAI, and for the broader research enterprise we support.

My experience serving as Secretary and President of the Southern Section was a meaningful learning journey. I have also taught at multiple SRAI venues and have been appointed to the Distinguished Faculty. I currently serve as a section editor and writer for the Catalyst. My service has reinforced just how much talent and diversity of experience exist within our organization. It has also strengthened my desire to engage even more members in sharing their voices and ideas. SRAI is at its best when it creates intentional space for collaboration and empowers members to contribute not only as learners but also as educators and leaders.

I feel that serving on the Board of Directors will allow me to continue advancing these values that I share with the association. I am committed to supporting SRAI’s educational mission, fostering inclusive engagement, and helping ensure that the organization remains responsive to the changing needs of research administrators worldwide.

I am running because I believe in SRAI. I believe in its people. I believe in the impact we can continue to make together.
