The importance of research security has gained prominence in recent years at research institutions nationwide. Many risks exist for both institutions and researchers, as well as for national and economic security. Institutions with over $50 million in federal funding per year will be required to certify that they have a compliant Research Security Program. This program ensures... Institutions can go beyond merely 'checking the boxes' by taking a thorough and proactive approach. This involves educating the research community on risks and best practices, promoting transparency among researchers, and establishing clear lines of communication both internally and with federal partners. During the session, participants will learn about their roles in the research security environment and how they can assist their employers in meeting compliance requirements, protecting the U.S. research enterprise from loss of intellectual property, and avoiding negative consequences for individuals and institutions.
