Webinar | Controlled Unclassified Information Regulations: Practical Processes and Procedures

Tuesday, January 29, 2019 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Controlled unclassified information requires controlled dissemination under a body of complex law and regulation. It is essential to understand if research information being received or generated is being classified as controlled unclassified information or if it is fundamental research to avoid the controlled information security concerns.

In this webinar, attendees will review and understand the designated in categories and subcategories that allow awardees to evaluate whether the research information in a project is correctly designated as controlled unclassified information. The DFAR 252.204-7012 does not use the CUI designation but it does call for the cybersecurity controls under NIST SP 800-171 Revision 1. If the designation as controlled unclassified information does not appear to reasonably apply to the researchers' information, then an outline for developing a well-supported position that this research information is not controlled information under the listed categories can be helpful.

In understanding if the information is controlled unclassified information, attendees will learn the use of practical process and procedures for assessing and implementing security needs should be employed.

Learning Objectives:

  • List of steps for assessing if information is controlled unclassified information.
  • Make a supported position why information should not be designated as controlled unclassified information.
