Las Vegas Annual Meeting – Last Reminders, Updates, and Favorites

Another SRAI Annual Meeting is near, and you won’t want to miss anything we have arranged for you! Here are the highlights.

At the time I write to all of you, we are 34 days away from taking over Las Vegas.  It’s hard to believe that we are so close to being back together so that we can network, find those pieces of information that make our roles easier, and share information that has worked at our institutions with each other over a packed week of programming.

Terry Campbell, Dave King, and I have been honored to plan this year’s meeting that will meet your expectations of strong educational content, networking opportunities, and fun. The educational content we have in store for you is incredible. Our field is full of inspiring leaders so you will not be disappointed. Be sure to check out the workshops that are available to complete the four certificates we have available in full this year.

Two favorite events are back so don’t forget to join us for the Welcome and Introduction to SRAI and Opening Reception on Tuesday evening (11/1).

  • For our first-time attendees, the Welcome and Introduction to SRAI gives you a chance to meet new people, learn more about SRAI, and prepare for the sessions ahead. We will have games and, of course, PRIZES! Those that aren’t so new to SRAI, please feel free to attend so that you can introduce yourself and join in the fun.
  • The Opening Reception will follow the Welcome and Introduction to SRAI, where we will be going Casino Royale so break out your casino chic attire and come in ready to eat, dance, and play the tables as we get ready for the concurrent sessions.

Our Opening Keynote Speaker will start us off on Wednesday morning with some inspiring words on public engagement in research. Johanna Varner, PhD has already made her mark on the world with engaging others in research and opening the dialogue with the public and understanding the importance of research. She also has a great nickname associated with cute and cuddly pikas. How can we not feel happy after starting off that way?

You won’t want to miss your Section Happy Hour Meetups on Thursday evening (11/3). This gives you a chance to meet with your section members in an informal setting and network.

Dave already warned you about the magical ending in store for our keynote on Thursday in our last Catalyst message and there will be so many more as you participate and engage during the meeting. Please be sure that you take advantage of anything you can along the way including volunteer opportunities to staff the SRAI Registration Desk and 2023 Joint Section Meeting Booth. Don’t forget to check out the Dinner Groups that have been arranged to keep the conversation moving after our first full day of conference sessions on Wednesday.

There is so much more I want to say about the meeting because there is so much for everyone. To make the most of the meeting, please take the time to visit the 2022 SRAI Annual Meeting Las Vegas website.

It has been a true honor to serve as your co-chairs this year.   We cannot wait to see you all there. Travel safe and come ready to learn, network, and have a great time.
