Note from the Editor | Redefining the Possible
Research administrators redefine the possible on a daily basis, whether it’s coaching new professors on application requirements, negotiating with funders, introducing new service delivery models or leading teams. This month’s Catalyst is chockful of examples where we lead the way as thought leaders and practitioners.
We kick off a new spotlight series on Team Development, with Part One on Building a Team. Melissa Karby, Nicholas Prieur and Pat Turnbull provide a research administrator’s view on service leadership. Fikria El Kaouakibi explores AI and its responsible use in research administration while Mark Lucas and Elonna Marci discuss the merits of SciENcv (a researcher profile system for US agencies).
SRAI’s Diversity, Engagement, and Inclusion Committee members provide their perspectives on the importance of DEI and how it drives excellence in research and research administration. The Catalyst will continue this critical theme over the next several months, highlighting DEI articles and reflections. And as SRAI President Gloria Greene reminds us, the upcoming 2023 Annual Meeting in Seattle will be the ultimate opportunity to learn first-hand from many leading experts. While you are in Seattle, don’t forget to check out some of Heather Brown’s favorite local spots. On the lighter side, Catalyst committee members share some of their spookier stories as research administrators.
On behalf of my Co-Chair, Karen Bone, and the Catalyst committee, we thank you for your courage, optimism and enthusiasm in redefining the possible.
