View from the Top | SRAI Annual Meeting in Seattle
I am counting down the days until the 2023 Annual Meeting in Seattle. I look forward to connecting with as many of you as possible.
Our co-chairs, Lynette Arias, Assistant Vice Provost for Research, Office of Research, University of Washington, Debbie Pettitt, Senior Grants Management Specialist, National Institutes of Health, and Andrew Wray, Head of Impact Development, University of Bristol, UK, have planned a conference that will address all of our professional development needs geared towards enhancing career growth and personal development. You will learn and engage from inspiring, first-hand experiences from leading research administration experts. Thank you to all our presenters, volunteers, and vendors; you make this possible. Shout out to the entire SRAI HQ Staff; you work miracles!
The Opening Reception, Ready for Take Off, is Sunday, October 15, from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the Museum of Flight. Buses will start at 6:30 pm, so dress casually and "fly" in style. All courtesy of SRAI's Yearlong Sponsor and super cool Platinum Partner, Cayuse!
I am equally excited about our new PI Intensive for New Faculty and Researchers: Building the Tools for Your Career in Research, taking place October 12-13. The Principal Investigator (PI) Intensive is a comprehensive day-and-a-half workshop to equip new faculty/researchers with the essential tools and skills for a successful research career. Led by renowned researchers from across the SRAI network: John Aitchison, PhD, Principal Investigator, Supervisor, Center for Global Infectious Disease Research, Seattle Children's Hospital; Julia Barzyk, PhD, Founder, Wise Investigator, LLC; Marsha Wills-Karp, PhD, Chair, Department of Environmental Health and Engineering and Anna M. Baetjer Professorship in Environmental Health, Johns Hopkins University; and Gary P. Zank, PhD, Aerojet-Rocketdyne Chair in Space Science, Director, Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research (CSPAR), The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
This workshop will offer our new faculty and researchers valuable insights and practical knowledge into understanding the responsibilities of a principal investigator, developing competitive grant applications, negotiating effectively with your Institution, and employing project management techniques to drive their research projects forward. SRAI’s Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC) believes this intensive will assist new faculty and researchers to embark on an exhilarating journey of growth and development through our intensive training program.
To celebrate Research Administrator Day and come together as a community, SRAI is hosting from October 1-31, an "RAs in Motion" Month-Long Step Challenge to support Research Administrators' Wellness! Prizes will be awarded to participants who achieve their step goals and share their journey on social media. Learn more about this exciting challenge and how to sign up here!
So get ready to network with your peers, engage with our exhibitors, consume as much information and knowledge as you can digest, and take flight during the Opening Reception at the Museum of Flight.
