Note from the Editor | Summertime

What do you think of as the official start of Summer?  Some wait for the calendar to say it’s officially summer, which happens on June 20 this year.  Some feel like every moment between the end of May through August should be treasured with the light-hearted joy that summer brings to many.  Others still have their nose to the grindstone and forget what time of year it is entirely. Take this is your official reminder to take a break, read the Catalyst, nominate someone for the Board of Directors, and maybe slather on some sunscreen so you can spend some time outside.

Grab your sunglasses and your favorite digital reading device. Let’s find a spot outside to settle in and dive into the next article in our Spotlight Series, continuing the conversation on AI in research administration and law.  This is going to remain a hot topic in our field, and you’ll notice the first Featured article also connects to this theme with Brian Romansky’s article Tactical and Strategic View on the Impact of AI for Research Associates. From there our Featured section tackles a host of topics we encounter every day. Theresa Couch writes about Streamline Workflows and Meahgan Ventura discusses Issuing International Subawards. We have the third and final installment of Laura Sheehan’s Managing Portfolios series and a new article by Olumide Odeyemi focused on Career Development and Trajectory

I really enjoyed Sean Scott’s perspective, and I think you will too, as he discusses the role of consultants in research administration in his article The Grass is Always Greener: Consulting in Research Administration. And since my grass is finally green for the summer, the title made me chuckle!

As you move into The Lighter Side, you’ll visit with the Distinguished Faculty as they let us know what they wish faculty/PI’s understood, and then be transported to Australia with Terry Campbell’s series SRAI in Your Country.

And to wrap up, at SRAI, the call has gone out for nominations to run for the Board of Directors. Consider submitting a nomination by July 1!
