Note from the Editor | Research Administrator Halloween

For those who celebrate, Happy (early) Halloween! As a kid I loved the chance to pick a costume and pretend to be someone else, whether real or imaginary. I never dressed up as a research administrator though since, as we often say in our field, no one knows that we exist or what it is we do.

With that said, you can still register onsite for the Annual Meeting if you want to attend and possibly celebrate Halloween in Las Vegas with your fellow research administrators. Additionally, our Spotlight article continues our RA Career Series with Career Options and our monthly poll from last month received an unprecedented number of responses when we asked members about their fields of study and how they use their education in their daily work life.

Regarding SRAI, I and my co-editor, Terry Campbell, had the distinct pleasure of interviewing our outgoing SRAI President Debra Schaller-Demers recently for an article in this month’s issue. We hope you too enjoy the interview along with her final View from the Top submission as she transitions to Immediate Past President. Thank you, Debbie, for all your hard work for SRAI, your continued commitment to research administration, and your willingness to share your experiences with us and our readers.

Don’t forget to check out the 2022 SRAI Election Results article for news on our newly elected Board members ahead of their induction at the Annual Meeting. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who voted and ran for office. Your participation makes our organization stronger.

Finally, if you need a little “escape” from your workweek or an idea for a team building activity that plays to the strengths of our field and fits well with Halloween, check out our latest Secret Life of a Research Administrator column. It might just be worth trying for yourself.
