Note from the Editor | Living in Transformation Station

As Research Administrators, we work in a world of ever-changing rules and regulations.  In other words, we live in Transformation Station, that proverbial place where everything around us might change while we are in mid-stride (i.e.. in the middle of the proposal development process), or the real-life version of the staircase in Harry Potter. We have to be highly adaptable and detail-oriented people to thrive in Transformation Station.
Because we are that, we are uniquely prepared for some of the changes big and small coming our way.  We'll wrap up this year's Spotlight exploring Allowability, Allocability, and Reasonableness (AAR), starting with incorporating AAR into your daily routine. AI is also one of those changes which we're still trying to figure out just how big of a change we’re going to allow this one to be. Karen Mitchell wraps up the DEI Committee’s articles on AI’s impact on research administration in her article this month. SRAI has also prepared changes for our community with the creation of the new Professional Development Framework.
With changes ensures the need for good communication, and our article Improving Communication through Improv will share how you can use improv techniques to improve your communication skills, and therefore how you can respond to change. Jose Alcaine and Jessica Schiller also remind us to Look Up and Smell the Roses as we realizing the impact and meaning of our research administration work.
One of our biggest changes includes the new President of SRAI, Dara Little, beginning her term at the recent Annual Meeting in Chicago. We welcome her with her first View from the Top and look forward to exciting new ideas that Dara will bring with her to the role. The Catalyst is gearing up for some transformations of our own as we plan for the new year just around the corner.  Keep watching for great things heading your way in future issues.
Until then, we hope those of you that traveled to Chicago for the Annual Meeting found it rewarding and we know that you’ll find some worth-while reading in the articles in this month’s issue. Happy Reading!
