2022 Northeast/Southern Section Meeting in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love. What better place to join with our Northeast and Southern Sections colleagues, April 3-6.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Steven Houser, who will be presenting “Building a Research Career Requires a Team.” Dr. Houser is an internationally respected cardiovascular researcher. His research focuses on new approaches to prevent, slow or reverse damage to the heart after a heart attack. In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds, so his research and contributions to healthcare are critically important (CDC). In his biosketch, Dr. Houser shares that his research group has “been on a quest to prevent and repair damage to the heart cells for decades, with the goals of changing the lives of patients with heart disease.” He was the 2021 recipient of the Gold Heart Award from the American Heart Association. His presentation will be an excellent opportunity to learn about some of the incredible work we support as research administrators.

We have a fantastic lineup of continuing education sessions, and we are offering two certificates that you can take in full during the conference. You can complete the financial management or the research integrity certificate.

The financial management certificate will start on Sunday, April 3, with the Understanding the Uniform Guidance on a Practical Level workshop. Participants will use the Uniform Guidance as the handout to work their way through the regulations.

The research integrity certificate will also start that Sunday. This workshop, Introduction to Research Integrity, provides the foundation for identifying, understanding, and addressing the complex ethical dimensions of conducting research.

You can register for these workshops even if you aren’t pursuing one of the certificates. Also, you have three years to complete the certificate program requirements, which means you can use the workshops and sessions from this conference to begin or further your progress towards a certificate.

I hope we get to see you in Philly! I am excited that the sakura – flowering, Japanese cherry trees – will be in bloom while we are there.
