Schedule

The Departmental Administration Intensive will occur over a six-week period, November 13 - December 18, 2024. The cohort will meet weekly on Wednesdays at 1:00 - 2:30 PM ET, with the exception of session 3 which will be held on Tuesday, November 26 in accordance with the Thanksgiving Holiday. Online classes will be recorded and available for 30 days following the program.

November 13 Classroom Kickoff 1.5 hours Introduction to cohort, overview course events, frame key elements of first module, additional instruction in a few key areas, including a deeper dive into funding mechanisms, research develop initiatives, and why getting started well is so important to effective research management and introduction into next module.  1.5 hours
November 13 - 20 Independent Study 1 week Complete test for Relationships, Roles and Responsibilities in Research Administration and read through Principles of Proposal Development. 2-3 hours
November 20 Classroom session 2 1.5 hours Review/Discuss second module, emphasis on working with PI and Research team, reading sponsor guidelines/RFPs/RFAs, Importance of understanding institutional policies and procedures, initiating proposals in eRA systems, preparing non-financial proposal documents (cover pages, other support, biosketches, research plan). 1.5 hours
November 20-26 Independent Study 1 week Complete test for Principles of Proposal Development. Begin to read through Research Compliance Frameworks. 2 - 3 hours

November 26 - December 4 Independent Study 1 week Complete test for Research Compliance Frameworks. Begin to read through Post Award Financial module. 2 hours
December 4 Classroom session 4 1.5 hours Review/discuss managing active awards: preparing for new research accounts (what to do at award setup), Managing active awards (allocating expenses, effort distributions, journal entries), Financial Compliance, and managing subcontracts. 1.5 hours
December 4 - December 11 Independent Study 1 week Complete test for Post Award Financial. Begin to read through Principle of Post-award Non-Financial. 2-4 hours
December 11 Classroom session 5 1.5 hours Review/Discuss 1.5 hours
December 11 - 18 Independent Study 1 week Complete test for Principle of Post-award Non-Financial. 2-4 hours
December 18 Classroom session 6 1.5 hours Finish program by bringing complete life cycle into perspective, reinforce soft skills needed beyond technical knowledge, discuss case studies, and comprehensive Q&A session. 1.5 hours
