Our Departmental Administration Training Intensive merges SRAI's LevelUp micro-credential modules with dynamic instructor-led sessions, allowing you to navigate the intricacies of research administration with finesse. During this program, our speakers dive into the essentials of Departmental Administration, starting with the intricacies of sponsor dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and organizational landscapes. From there, sessions will focus on pre-award research concepts, delving into guideline reviews, budget crafting, and proposal preparation with precision and expertise. The training will also cover managing active awards, honing your administrative prowess in tasks such as expense allocation, effort reporting, sponsor communication, and award closeouts.
 
All registered participants will have access to an SRAI Connect Community for the course, where you can ask the speakers and cohort questions, share useful documents or information, discuss crucial topics, and more.

Intended Audience

This program is intended for research administrators with less than 3 years experience who are involved in departmental administration. 

Learning Objectives

After completing Departmental Administration, participants will be able to:

  • Gain a better understanding of the unique and complex role of Departmental Administrators in Research Administration.
  • Identify and recognize sponsor frameworks, guidelines, policies and procedures, approaches for effective proposal submission.
  • Become familiar with essential budget development concepts.
  • Learn departmental administrative responsibilities for managing and reporting on active projects.
  • Understand general principles of cost allocations, financial compliance, and award closeouts.
  • Develop familiarity with key compliance concepts as they relate to animal and human research participants, financial conflicts of interest, and basic research ethics.

Course Details

The Departmental Administration Research Training Intensive was developed for early career individuals responsible for directly supporting investigators and research teams. The content is designed to provide a strong foundation necessary to manage the complexities and nuances of departmental research administration. Participants will self-train at their own pace with micro-credentialing modules, then participate in five 90-minute cohort sessions online to discuss key elements and review course concepts.

Online Classroom:
  • Intensive sessions will be held via Zoom.
  • You will receive login details and instructions on accessing the online classroom environment upon enrollment.
Connect Pages:
  • Access to Connect Pages will be provided upon enrollment in the course.
  • Connect Pages serve as the central hub for meeting recordings and communication.
CEU Credits:
  • This course is eligible for 9 Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits.
  • Participants who successfully complete the course and meet the evaluation criteria will receive a certificate of completion along with documentation of the earned CEU credits.
