NC-SRAI_Chapter_Logo_0.jpgNC-SRAI_2018_Meeting_Logo_0.jpgMore than 300 members, over 100 of whom were newcomers, attended the 2018 North Carolina Chapter Meeting on Friday, February 9, at the Penn Pavilion at Duke University. Many thanks to Cindy Kiel, President of SRA International and Executive Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Administration at the University of California, Davis, for presenting an inspiring and motivational keynote on the meeting’s theme: “Past, Present and Future: Preparing the Next Generation.” [Both the chapter logo and the meeting logo were used to brand the program.]

Twelve concurrent sessions addressed topics related to such areas as pre-award, post-award, project management, sub-recipient monitoring, research compliance, soft skills, and the funding landscape. On Thursday, February 8, three pre-conference workshops on Financial Administration, Proposal Development, and Proposal Budget Development, each designed to help fulfill an SRAI Certificate, were also offered, and the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) provided a CRA review session. All were well received by attendees.

The SRAI-NC Chapter’s executive committee includes not only Pamela and Tonjia but also Chapter President Paul Tuttle (North Carolina A&T State University), Past President Tim Linker (who has recently joined North Carolina A&T State University from High Point University), and Secretary Alison Krauss (Western Carolina University).

The following awards were presented at the business meeting: The incoming President-elect, Pamela Montgomery, received the President’s Award in recognition of her outstanding service to the North Carolina Chapter. The Outgoing President, Tim Linker, also presented Kris Mathews (Duke University), Margot Wuebbens (Duke University), and Debbie Appler (SRAI headquarters) each with a Program Committee Award to recognize their strong commitment to and untiring support of the chapter. Additionally, each Program Planning Committee member was thanked for his or her hard work and creative problem-solving abilities with a gift.
