Savannah, Georgia: A Look at the 2020 Southern/Western Section Meeting Site

In March 2020, we invite you to attend the 2020 SRAI Southern/Western Section Meeting in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is a historic Southern town where you can find art, architecture, boutique shopping, and other historic adventures. It is also a town to tempt your taste buds as meals come from the coast, and cocktails can be found at every meal. Savannah is a city that can bring adventure to any type of adventurer.

Opening weekend will provide great opportunities to explore historic Savannah. For those who love to shop, there are many places to visit. The Downtown Design District or City Market is the place to look for arty items such as upcycled furniture, jewelry, paintings, and pottery. Home furnishings, gourmet food, apparel, and fine jewelry can be found in the shops on Broughton Street. Yet, if shopping for antiques is the way to go, vintage clothing can be found in the eclectic Starland neighborhood, and Savannah’s other antique shops contain oddities and other collectibles.

For those interested in exploring the history of Savannah, there are many opportunities to tour parts of the city. Trekking through Bonaventure Cemetery will bring chills to those looking for a little scare. The cemetery was made famous in the book and movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The architecture of historic Savannah can be admired by touring historic landmarks or visiting the bounty of museums such as the Savannah History Museum, Georgia State Railroad Museum, or Pin Point Heritage Museum.  See the coastline and various wildlife by taking a cruise. Enjoy the sounds of jazz, classical, or alternative-rock music at the hangouts that dot Savannah.

Outdoor enthusiasts are not left out in Savannah. Natural beauty is in abundant supply and ready to be enjoyed by its visitors. Stroll, run, or walk down Savannah’s cobblestone streets. Visit gardens and various fountains that dot the historic squares of the city. Golf enthusiasts can also tee off at one of the many golf courses in the area. Beach goers can visit the beaches and waters of Tybee Island. For different perspectives, enjoy a canoe ride or go kayaking down the scenic Savannah River.
