Happy New Year to all my fellow research administrators! I hope your new year is off to a great start. A new year offers a time for reflection and inspiration. It’s time to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for many reasons but the internet has already dubbed 2020 a year of “vision.” My aging eyes certainly don’t see 20/20 anymore without visionary aids; but, my research administrator's vision remains clear and bright.

As research administrators, we are always asked to be visionaries. When will I receive my award so I can start spending? How long will this review take? Is my no-cost extension going to be approved? Why isn’t my student being paid? The list of questions posed to research administrators is endless. Do the individuals that ask these questions think we can see the future? Maybe. But, that is because most of these individuals have witnessed a research administration miracle so they have a level of trust and confidence in our visionary expertise.

Given that 2020 is a year of vision and research administrators are such visionaries, this is our year! But, before we start shining our stars, remember the Peter Parker principle that with great power comes great responsibility. So, polish up those crystal balls, keep your research administration eyes clear and bright, and share your research administration miracles in the SRAI Catalyst throughout the year. Here’s to 20/20 research administrator vision for 2020!
