New You
View from the Top | New Year, Same Challenges, New You

Welcome to the not-so Roaring 20s in research administration. I want to challenge each of you to focus on the “New You.” In particular, let’s start with some highlights from Stephen Covey’s, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Habit 1: Be Proactive – focus on changing the things you can.

Habit 3: Put First Things First – create a proper balance between your work and personal life.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – maintain a balanced program in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual.

David Cottrell stated, “Don’t be so busy making a living that you forget how to live. Work hard to be successful, but enjoy the journey.” Brace yourselves, administrators. “Winter is coming,” and we must prepare ourselves for the not- so Roaring 20s, and the mind-boggling stress of “Foreign Influences,” “China Initiative,” “Conflict of Interest,” “Conflict of Commitment,” etc., all wrapped in countless studies, hearings, and sessions on “Reducing Administrative Burden.”

Let us make this the year of “You.” Happy 2020 SRAI!
