Kudos Korner | Nathan L. Vanderford
SRA International members rock! As research management and administration professionals, they never stop improving, learning, achieving, or earning new heights of success. We love sharing good news and offering a well-deserved slap on the back for recent personal and/or professional achievement. In keeping with that sentiment, please join with us as we congratulate Nathan L. Vanderford
on the recent publication!
SRA International is a professional networking community of learners. One way to gain knowledge and expertise is to share our stories of successful achievements with our peers and colleagues. Often research managers/administrators are cast in the role of promoting, supporting and applauding others. While this may be gratifying in many respects, it is also healthy to have pride in one’s own accomplishments. Kudos Korner offers SRA International members a wonderful and respectful venue for sharing and “bragging.”

The Cancer Crisis in Appalachia: Kentucky Students Take ACTION
Cancer incidence and mortality rates are staggeringly high in Kentucky, especially in the eastern portion of the state that lies in the Appalachian Mountain region. The statistics that show that Kentucky ranks number one in the United States for cancer incidence and mortality rates are very important, but the data do not tell the personal stories of how cancer affects individuals, families and entire communities. Telling some of these stories was the premise behind The Cancer Crisis in Appalachia: Kentucky Students Take ACTION. The book consists of essays written by twenty-five students who are participants in the Appalachian Career Training in Oncology Program directed by Dr. Nathan Vanderford, Assistant Professor in Toxicology and Cancer Biology at the University of Kentucky. Each student describes how cancer has impacted their lives or the lives of their family and they explore their thoughts on what could be done to lower the cancer burden in their communities. The Cancer Crisis in Appalachia: Kentucky Students Take ACTION is available for purchase via Amazon.
