Get Interested in What You’re Doing and Give it Your All | by Pamela Montgomery
I’m running for an At-Large Member position. If elected, I will give it my all. I will continue to support the interests of our members’ needs by helping to develop, define and promote best practices in research management.
I have been serving the research community at Duke University in various capacities including being a subject matter expert in sponsored programs administration and finance as well as a workshop facilitator to help mentor others. I have been doing this for over twenty years and know that I have the expertise and experience to help guide the vision of SRAI.
I am very dedicated, responsible, motivated, and a self-starter. My dedication is proven in how I will follow a project through its fruition, from the beginning to the end. That is a life lesson I have learned growing up as a daughter of a farmer. Hard work, dedication, and perseverance have followed me throughout my life as an educator in the public school and college system, working as a public administration intern for the city manager, to leadership roles in research administration.
I have a very energetic and committed attitude towards my volunteer work with SRAI. Having been a member of SRAI’s North Carolina chapter since 1999, I have held multiple positions including:
- President
- President Elect
- Treasurer
- Co-chair of the chapter’s planning committee for its annual meeting
- Chair of the chapter’s membership subcommittee
I have volunteered for the Southern Section and the SRA International Annual Meetings. In addition to volunteer roles I had with the NC Chapter, I am serving or have served in the following capacities:
- President Elect, Southern Section
- Planning Committee, Southern Section
- Newcomers Committee, SRA International
- Subaward Committee, SRA International
Any time I am needed in other areas, I’m there. Joining SRAI also took me back to my love of teaching. I was able to take on visiting lecturer positions and have also presented multiple times at SRAI-NC meetings, the international annual meeting, and in other venues across the state and nation.
On my off time, I thoroughly enjoy my volunteer work with the community and the state. I enjoy working with young children and teenagers. In 1998, my husband and I started a summer enrichment camp with four children. Since then, each year we have 30 campers coming together for exciting learning and physical activities.
My mother would tell me, “Get interested in what you’re doing and give it your all.” That is exactly what I do and will continue to do. I’m running for an At-Large Member position and if elected I will give it my all. As a member, I will continue to support the interests of our members’ needs by helping to develop, define and promote best practices in research management and administration, and continued growth of the research enterprise. I am enthusiastic and ready to serve.
