Call for Departmental Administration Training Instructors

Learn more about the SRAI Departmental Administration Instructor Program!

OVERVIEW

The SRAI Departmental Administration program has evolved over the past few years, becoming a robust, well-developed online program that utilizes the LevelUP modules as curriculum. SRAI would like to offer this program more frequently to provide optimal training and education to people in the field of research administration who work in centers and departments for organizations receiving sponsored funds.

This program is intended primarily for the research administrators with less than 3 years’ experience who work in centers and departments. Participants will be taught sponsor, regulatory and organizational landscapes from the departmental perspective, before progressing to pre-award research concepts including guideline reviews, budget development, and proposal preparation. Subsequent sessions and modules will cover the administrative and financial responsibilities for managing active awards at the department level including charging expenses to restricted accounts, effort reporting, sponsor reporting, and award closeouts. Throughout the program, participants will also be introduced to regulatory compliance areas that ensure research integrity and protect research participants.

The program is presented over a six-week period. Participants will self-train at their own pace utilizing the micro-credentialing modules and will participate in six, 90-minute online cohort sessions during which they will discuss key elements and review course concepts. Participants will have access to the following LevelUp Micro-credentialing modules:

Instructors will lead the online discussions, using previously developed materials, presenting key concepts and leading the cohort through selected case studies or other targeted conversations. They serve as subject matter experts in all areas of research administration, focusing the materials through the lens of a departmental administrator.

Minimum Instructor Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the research administration and management field. At least 2 years should be at the departmental level.
  • Previous speaking experience, with a preference in virtual.
  • Area(s) of expertise in a minimum of three module areas, with the ability to cover all five modules.
  • Letter of support from the nominee’s supervisor.
  • Willingness to collaborate and cooperate with other instructors (usually there are two co-speakers for each cohort).

Time Commitment

Each Training Intensive has a minimum of two co-speakers for each cohort. When serving as an instructor of a cohort, plan to commit the following:
