Basics of Research Administration - Schedule

Schedule

The Basics of Research Administration Intensive will occur over a six-week period, June 11 - July 23, 2024. Sessions will convene weekly on Tuesdays, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM ET. Online classes will be recorded and available for 30 days following the program.

Pre-Class Review of Module 1 1 week Read through Relationships, Roles and Responsibilities in Research Administration 4-6 hours
Classroom Kickoff 1.5 hours Introduction to cohort, overview course events, frame key elements of first module, additional instruction in a few key areas, including a deeper dive into funding mechanisms, research develop initiatives, and why getting started well is so important to effective award management. 1.5 hours
Module 1 / Module 2 1 week Complete test for Relationships, Roles and Responsibilities in Research Administration and read through Principles of Pre-Award Research Administration. 4-6 hours
Classroom session 2 1.5 hours Overview course events, discuss key elements of first module, additional instruction in a few key areas including working with faculty, identifying funding opportunities, building budgets, and framing upcoming module. 1.5 hours
Module 2 / Module 3 1 week Complete test for Principles of Pre-award Research Administration. Begin to read through Principles of Award Negotiation and Acceptance. 4 - 6 hours
Classroom session 3 1.5 hours Overview course events, discuss key elements of first 2 modules, additional instruction in a few key areas including managing proposal deadlines, deeper dives into funding mechanisms and validation errors, reviewing justifications, deeper dive into non-profit and contract funding, and framing upcoming module. 1.5 hours
Module 3 / Module 4 1 week Complete test for Principles of Award Negotiation and Acceptance. Begin to read through Principles of Regulatory Compliance. 4 - 6 hours
Classroom session 4 1.5 hours Review/discuss previous module, additional instruction in a few key areas including introduce post-award non-financial as a topic, and key concepts like award management and prior authorization requests, sub-recipient processing and monitoring, effort, and framing upcoming module. End of lesson introduce and explain case study assignment. 1.5 hours
Module 4 / Module 5 1 week Complete test for Principles of Regulatory Compliance. Begin to read through Post-award Financial Research Administration. 3 - 5 hours
Classroom session 5 1.5 hours Review/discuss previous module, bring complete life cycle into perspective, reinforce soft skills needed beyond technical knowledge, discuss case studies, and framing upcoming module. Review/discuss previous module, additional instruction in a few key areas including post-award non-financial continued: reporting, compliance, non-financial aspects of closeouts, and closing remarks. 1.5 hours
Module 5 1 week Complete test for Principle of Post-award Financial Research Administration. 2 - 4 hours
Classroom session 6 1.5 hours Answering any and all questions regarding the program.  1.5 hours
